The Sugar Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Industry and Production has decided to export sugar, in the first phase, one hundred thousand tons of sugar will be allowed to be exported.
Sources say that a summary will be presented in the ECC meeting, to avoid sugar shortage and to ensure that the price does not increase, the price of sugar will be reviewed every 15 days and more sugar will be allowed to be exported. But 5 lakh tons of sugar will be exported.
On the other hand, the sugar mill owners termed the government’s decision as a good move and said that it will enable the sugarcane payments to the farmers and the country will also get valuable foreign exchange.
It should be noted that the sugar industry had demanded that 10 lakh tonnes of sugar be allowed to be exported.
